About Byte of Nature

"We shape human nature, yet remain rooted in nature."

Byte of Nature transforms seemingly impossible future visions into tangible prototypes - provoking dialogue, challenging conventions, and inspiring innovation. Our work has supported leading companies such as Philips, LVMH, and Kaldewei, and has resulted in multiple patents across diverse domains.

We see technology not as an end in itself, but as a powerful enabler. Rooted in an ontological design approach, our practice explores how technology reshapes the way we exist, perceive, and relate. Technology extends our lifeworld, offers new grounds for shared understanding, but also reveals unforeseen consequences along the way.

Our projects aim to make these shifts visible, materialising futures not just to imagine them, but to feel, question, and transform them.

Our Story

Byte of Nature was founded by Dutch art technologist Stijn Ossevoort (born 1974), who started out as a freelance designer in 2000. Early collaborations with renowned figures and studios, such as Ron Arad, ArtAngels and Prada, laid the foundation for a diverse practice that grew to encompass self-initiated projects and large-scale commissions for international clients.

Over the years, his work has spanned countries and disciplines, combining creativity with technological insight. Alongside his professional work, he has held a part-time position at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, where he continues to share his expertise.

Today, Byte of Nature is based in Zurich, and holds occasional work sessions in an atelier in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, maintaining a presence in both the Swiss and Dutch design landscapes.
